Title
Ode to a Fallen Leaf Painting
Artist
Kimberlee Baxter
Medium
Painting - Acrylic
Description
It is fall and a single leaf has fallen to the ground, carried where a traveler on a nature walk sees it and contemplates its beauty and elegance...one fallen leaf turning brown and beginning to decay, yet still brilliant and beautiful in its own right! Soon, along with the others, it will fully decay and become rich and fertile soil for new maple seeds to take root, carried there by the wind, too! There, the life cycle will begin all over again! This painting would be very nice viewed with "Falling Leaves One" and "Falling Leaves Two", especially, if it were bought with prints of the others and displayed in the middle, between the two!

Thank you, Chris! I am glad that you can appreciate this Autumnal work with me! Yes, the symbolism found in Fall or Autumn of how everything cycles--starts to die back in the Fall, winter over (becoming dormant) and then in the Spring, comes back to newness of life--can have profound and deep symbolism not only for the cycles we find in this life, but for the one in the next life (Eternal Life)! Thank you for the compliment and your awesome support!

Thank you, Debbie! The message of "life" or "rebirth" and "cycles of change" are very apparent here in this work! To me, they are not contradictory, as I believe that from dust we came from and dust we will go back to, until to the appointed day of Judgment when we will rise again with a new body (Genesis 2:7, Genesis 3:19, I Sam. 2:8, Eccl. 3:20, 12:7, Isaiah 2:10, Isaiah 26:5, 26:19, Daniel 12:2, )! It is my belief that we serve an all powerful God and that there is nothing that He is not able to do...including reconstituting the body! However, our spirits live on after death!

Thank you, Joe! I think that you have to love this time of the season, Autumn, to really enjoy all of its beauty and splendor! The colors of Autumn are so breath-taking! From the time I was a little girl, I have enjoyed nature walks during this season and always end up bending over many times to gather a collection of leaves, so that I can study their intricate patterns and appreciate their many colors! I plan to keep on doing this even if I live to be a 100! Thank you for your compliment and support!

Thank you so much, Nina, for your thoughtful comments! I really appreciate it! This is one of my favorite paintings, not just because I love Autumn colors, but this single fallen leaf holds a lot of symbolic meaning for me--poetically expressed, it is as if it is "Autumn...the year's last, loveliest smile." (quote from William Cullen Bryant).
