It is Autumn--"the season of change"! A leaf has fallen and been carried by the wind on a path that crosses that of traveler, who sees its brilliance (though decaying) and stops to pick it up and admire it! Nature creates such spectacular beauty during this season. This is what this painting is all about--remembering Autumn's last gift of beauty, a "last...smile"! This picture contains the quote: "Autumn...the year's last, loveliest smile."
Before I had my two children, I worked selling furniture and helping people to decorate their homes--my first passion--interior decorating/design and art! Before I went back to my first passion, I worked for a variety of non-profits and government sponsored programs--including AmeriCorps (domestic version of the PeaceCorps), D.H.S., and the University of TN. Before working in the non-profits, I attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and really enjoyed being politically active with a group that addressed socio-economic injustices! As a result, I decided to major in Political Science and Anthropology. Studying about different cultures, its art, and political systems has always fascinated me! I think that we can learn a...

I like the light filtered through the leaf in this work - outstanding LF
Kimberlee Baxter replied:
Thank you, Robert. I love to give each of my paintings a light source! I use that as the basis, or the starting point, for how I paint. Although my paintings would not be classified as "impressionistic", I like to explore the value of light qualities and the interplay between the intensity of light and dark, or contrasts, of the objects I paint and the way that the human eye perceives them!

What a beautiful painting Kimberlee!!!! Gorgeous colors and composition! v/f
Kimberlee Baxter replied:
Thank you, Genevieve. I love fall so much that I literally get a little sad to see it end! The colors of this season are literally a "feast" to my eyes! I savor the rich colors of the season taking them in slowly to deeply appreciate their beauty--deep purples, crimsons, golds, and earth tones! I am in absolute aesthetic heaven and, I think, creatively stimulated by such bounty of visual beauty all around me, especially when I take a drive out with my children in the countryside or mountains here in Tennessee! I am quite awe-struck!

This painting warm heal me.
Kimberlee Baxter replied:
Thank you for your kind words! I love the colors of fall and tried to show a fraction of their beauty in this painting, as well as the other two that I did for my daughter's school fall festival, "Falling Leaves 1" and "Falling Leaves 2"! I am glad when my art can inspire others in some small way!
