I am so excited to offer my new painting "My Poppy Love!" just in time for Christmas! The very color combination--green, gold, red, with a purple accent mirrors the color scheme of my home, so this is a reflection of my personality.
This work was painted from multiple reference photos I took this summer at my mother-in-law's, Peggy's, beautiful meadow flower garden! I chose to paint three flowers in order to represent the different life stages in a clockwise rotation--fresh and just beginning to open up (top flower--front and center), a flower at its prime, and then, finally, the last one is a flower that has come full circle and is beginning to curl back up. In this painting, I tried to imitate the effects of digital photo editing programs that allow for magnifying the center focus (the red Poppy flowers), while blurring the rest of the work--making for a slightly out of focus background that looks mottled. Before I had my two children, I worked selling furniture and helping people to decorate their homes--my first passion--interior decorating/design and art! Before I went back to my first passion, I worked for a variety of non-profits and government sponsored programs--including AmeriCorps (domestic version of the PeaceCorps), D.H.S., and the University of TN. Before working in the non-profits, I attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and really enjoyed being politically active with a group that addressed socio-economic injustices!
