Description
At a time when our country was fighting in a foreign war in Vietnam trying to "contain" the ideas of communism and push back the takeover of South Vietnam by the North, we could certainly most benefit from the idea of HEALING on so many levels, the concept of Earth Day was forming in a peace activist's mind! John McConnell, at a UNESCO Conference in 1969, proposed a revolutionary NEW idea, with the goal to both encourage peace worldwide and honor the earth at the same time! Then one month later, United States Senator Gaylord John Nelson made it an official day on April 22, 1970 to serve as an environmental teach-in! He was recognized with the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award for his efforts, but that idea was too good to be contained to just the U.S. and was later adopted internationally!
This work commemorates both the origins and the original ideas that gave birth to what many feel was the beginning of a movement, a current or tidal wave of CHANGE, if you will, that woke up the sleeping world and birthed the Modern Environmental Movement! All the creatures both on and in the earth give a large shout out "HOORAY, it's about time! 'Our Day' has finally come!"
