Description
"The Venice of My Recollection"
According to Wikipedia, Venice is renowned for the beauty of its setting, its architecture, and its artwork.[2] The city in its entirety is listed as a World Heritage Site, along with its lagoon.[2
This particular view features part of the Grand Canal and the backside of the basilicas of San Marco. I have created an unusually bright and dynamic sky with the sun just beginning to set between the end of summer and the beginning of the season of Autumn. I wanted the sunset to cast a rosy and golden glow on the buildings and their amazing architectural detail along with the water glistening from the warmth of the sun. In short, I wanted to give this part of the city a romantic and inviting treatment to draw in the viewer's eye to want to come and explore this magnificent city!
This has been, though very enjoyable, the result of a long and arduous effort to paint, as with my worsening arthritis, I am not able to paint even a straight line without the aid of a ruler! Since I like to freehand all of my original works of art, using a ruler not just for the laying out of general guidelines and/ or proportions for the scale of the buildings and its architectural detail, but for almost the entire painting, except the sky and water, was most tiring!
Please note: This is to be part of a another project, which I will paint next that will take on a spiritual or religious aspect, so please come back to check out a second version of this!

Thanks so much, Liesl! I was aiming for a very warm and romantic feel--the way you might see the city for the very first time or for the very last time and wanted to remember how alive it made you feel! Thanks for your appreciation of my work, and I do enjoy your work as well!

Okay, speaking of the significance of the number 7, I am getting a little concerned about tornadoes forming where I live right now! They started just after 7:00 p.m. (same time as I painted on the clock tower), and the storm system started right at 7 miles from my house! This is uncanny!
Mike Eingle
Beautiful painting Kimberlee! I love the sky and reflections in the water as well as the clock on the tower! l/f
Kimberlee Baxter replied:
Thanks so much, Mike, for the very generous and thoughtful compliment and your support! Yes, the time on the clock is 7:00 p.m.--the number seven has religious significance, and notice that there are three boats in the middle of the water. The number three also has significance as well! I have something planned in the future using this painting, so come on back, and pay me a visit later!
