Beautiful and peaceful image with lovely title. L/F

Kimberlee Baxter replied:

Thanks so much, Marcia! I have an interesting story to share: I painted this scene from a photograph I took back in the spring at Mexico City Beach. On the last night of my stay in Florida, I had ventured out to capture the sunset and found myself locked out for several hours (was deadbolted from the inside) when I came back to the vacation home I was staying at. My party had gone out for a birthday celebration, and in their hurry, had forgotten that I had gone out to the ocean! I spent the next hour and half thinking and reviewing in mind how beautiful and serene this scene truly was. In retrospect, the cost of my little adventure was well worth it!

Artist's Description

Alone in the fleeting light, a baby Green Sea Turtle must follow the natural source of light--the Sun, in order to find its way to the ocean! If it gets side-tracked by the unnatural, or man-made, sources of light, it will not ever find its real home. It will likely fall prey to predators or die from dehydration!

On a spiritual level, this work can serve as a analogy as to how we as human beings immerse ourselves in material wealth and, thus, become entrapped and lured by the riches of this world; in essence we have lost our way in finding true meaning in this world! From a religious perspective, this work could symbolize for Christians, or for anyone who would seek salvation, to remember to always Follow the One True Light (as Christians believe that Christ s...

About Kimberlee Baxter

Kimberlee Baxter

Before I had my two children, I worked selling furniture and helping people to decorate their homes--my first passion--interior decorating/design and art! Before I went back to my first passion, I worked for a variety of non-profits and government sponsored programs--including AmeriCorps (domestic version of the PeaceCorps), D.H.S., and the University of TN. Before working in the non-profits, I attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and really enjoyed being politically active with a group that addressed socio-economic injustices! As a result, I decided to major in Political Science and Anthropology. Studying about different cultures, its art, and political systems has always fascinated me! I think that we can learn a...
