Dream of an Owl Keeping Watch
Artist
Kimberlee Baxter

Painting - Acrylic And Digital
Description
It is midnight, and somewhere deep in the valley of the mountains, an owl is keeping watch, or is it just a dream? I keep dreaming that I hear the hooting of an owl amid the soft muffled night sounds! It is calling my mind to make a journey out into the cold, out into the snow. I lie awake wishing I could go to sleep, but like this owl, I, too, feel like somehow my mind should keep watch!
This painting was done with the help of a very talented artist on the FAA website, Glen Gray! Please stop by his website and check out his amazing art! The website is: http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/glen-gray.html

Kimberlee, I so love the soft light around the moon.. Your trees, laden with snow just ring so clear. This is beautiful, and the description, well, that just adds such power to the painting. Beautifully done. The work is inspired. F/V and Congratulations on the feature.

Thank you, Aurelio! I was trying to achieve a sort of surrealistic looking version, like one is in a dream, with this work! Since, I have gotten positive feedback on this one, I will post the original version of the painting later this evening!

The idea behind this work, Hartmut, is that because the owl is nocturnal in nature, it stays awake while we sleep! Often, the night sounds we hear will filter back into our subconscious in the form of dreams! In effect, in seems that the owl is "keeping watch over me, or you" in this symbolic way! Thanks for stopping by my art page and commenting. It is really appreciated! Best of luck to you!

It might be just me, but this great and lovely painting also has an almost future like prophetic feel about it. As if all the humans had long since disappeared and the owl is saying, 'That is what becomes of those who do not respect nature.'
